Satan's Strategies
SERMON STARTER

Satan hates us with a perfect hatred. Almighty God in His Mercy has chosen to extend His redemption to humankind. Satan and His followers, however, sinned a sin that is without forgiveness. To say that Satan is jealous and resentful is an understatement. To say it bluntly the enemy wants us DEAD. He wants us physically, emotionally and spiritually dead.
During the height of the cold war, a former FBI agent wrote a book about Soviet spies working in Washington and how the KGB would solicit workers in the FBI and CIA to work for them. The KGB would never start by approaching an American and asking him or her to steal ‘top secret’ documents.           Instead, they would start with something simple, something that was public information, like a telephone number. It was no big deal. The KGB could get this information from the phone book. Why not sell it to them for a little extra cash. Then like a fish on a hook, the KGB would ask for a little more information, and a little more, all the time increasing the ‘sensitivity’ of the information sought. By the time the American was steeped in betraying their government, they didn’t know how they had been sucked in by the enemy. Temptation is like that. Satan will try to use whatever door He can to suck you into doing his bidding.
The enemy of our souls uses repetitive, predictable, age-old strategies to ensnare the unwary believer. After all, our enemy has been around thousands of years. The armor of God teaching reveals an underlying way the enemy attacks us and how the armor protects us. My sermon today outlines seven common strategies used by the enemy to destroy us.

Satan's Strategies
Ephesians 6:10-18

"There are three enemies of the spiritual life we must deal with as believers and followers of the Lord Jesus. Our enemies are the World, the Flesh and the Devil. Today we focus on the devil, one of the deadly trio."  Pastor Phil

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.     Ephesians 6:11  NKJV
 ". . . stand against the devil's schemes.   (NIV)

James 4:7
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

SATAN - Sah-tan-os - The Accuser -
DEVIL - Dee-ab-ol-os - Slanderer - Malicious Gossip

STRATEGY - The art of planning and directing overall military operations and movements in a war or battle. A plan for military operations and movements during a war or battle.

Four Characteristics of Satanic Attack:
1. Unawareness of Victims                  3. Marks Left on Victims
2. Need for Vigilance                            4. Viciousness of Attacks
(See "Fall of Hallel" in Isaiah 14:12-15 - Pride)

SEVEN STRATEGIES OF SATAN IN EPHESIANS 6:14-18:
I.   SATAN ATTACKS BY ERROR - Verse 14a
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
A. Satan is a Liar - John 8:44
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want
to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the
truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks
from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
1. Remember Satan's Lies in the Garden?
                    2. Has God said. . .?  You shall NOT surely die.
          B. Four Common Lies of Satan
                    1. God is not Loving - "A loving God would not. . ."
                    2. God is not Truthful - Satan introduced relativism, rationalism,                                                                         pragmatism, post-modernism: all Lies
                    3. God is not Righteous - "A Righteous God wouldn't punish. . ."
                    4. God is not Gracious - "You can be as gods. . ."
          C. Satan Blinds the Minds of believes to Truth - 2 Cor. 4:3,4
SATAN'S STRATEGIES, cont., p.2

3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,
4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the
light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should
              shine on them.
                    1. He is the Mind Blinder
                    2. He Blinds our Minds to God's Obvious Truth

SECOND STRATEGY OF SATAN IN EPHESIANS 6:14-18:
II.  SATAN ATTACKS BY DECEPTION - 2 Cor. 11:13,14
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.
A. False Teachers teaching Demonic Doctrines - 1 Tim. 4:1
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the
faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
          B. Wolves in Sheep's Clothing - Matthew 7:15
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but
              inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
          C. They will not spare God's Flock - Acts 20:30
30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things,
to draw away the disciples after themselves.

THIRD STRATEGY OF SATAN IN EPHESIANS 6:14-18:
III. SATAN ATTACKS BY IMPURITY
          ". . .with the breastplate of righteousness in place. . ."    v. 14 cont.
A. Uphold righteousness - Rev. 22:11b
11 He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy
still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him
              be holy still."
          B. Keep your thoughts pure -  Phil. 4:8
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are
lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if
there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.

FOURTH STRATEGY OF SATAN IN EPHESIANS 6:14-18:
IV.  SATAN ATTACKS BY ANGER - Ephesians 4:18
15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

          A. Never deny/sleep on anger - Eph. 4:26
26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath,
                    1. Repressed Anger becomes a Bitter Root
                    2. Resolve conflicts as quickly as possible
          B. Obey Jesus' command about anger - John 15:14; Matt. 5:22
14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 22 But I say to you
that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger
of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in       danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire.
SATAN'S STRATEGIES, cont., p.3

FIFTH STRATEGY OF SATAN IN EPHESIANS 6:14-18:
V.  SATAN ATTACKS BY DOUBT - Eph. 4:16
16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

A. Roman soldiers soaked their shields in water
Before Roman soldiers went out to battle, they purposely soaked their
shields in water until they were completely water-saturated. The soldiers
did this because they knew the enemy would be shooting fire-bearing
arrows in their direction. If a shield was dry, it was possible for it to be
set on fire when struck. But if this vital piece of armor was water-
soaked, the flames would be extinguished even if an arrow penetrated
                 its heavily saturated surface.
B. We must soak our Shield of Faith in the Word of God
                    1. Our Faith must be Word-soaked before we battle
                    2. Enemy's fiery darts are EXTINGUISHED by Faith's Shield

SIXTH STRATEGY OF SATAN IN EPHESIANS 6:14-18:
VI.  SATAN ATTACKS BY ACCUSATION - Eph. 4:17
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

A. Enemy often attacks with Obsessive Thoughts
                    1. Anger over Injustice is a typical Satanic strategy
                    2. Hostility is one of the enemy's favorite flame-tipped arrows
          B. We counter his accusations with "It is written. . " See Jesus in Luke 4
          C. We counter with prayer for one another - James 5:16
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you
may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

SEVENTH STRATEGY OF SATAN IN EPHESIANS 6:14-18:
VII. SATAN ATTACKS BY NEGLECT OF PRAYER - Eph. 6:18
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--

SATAN'S STRATEGIES
Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--

Despite the mind-numbing brutality of the Joseph Stalin regime in the Soviet Union, his propaganda machine did its job well. Many Russians hailed him as a hero and a savior, including a young school girl who was chosen to greet Stalin on one occasion.
Years later, this woman recalled Stalin taking her onto his lap, smiling like a loving father. She was starry-eyed, and she cherished the moment for many years. Only later did she learn that during this period, Stalin had her parents arrested and sent to the labor camps, never to be seen again.

On one occasion Norman "Kid" McCoy, who was welterweight boxing champion in 1896, was fighting a contender who had the misfortune of being deaf. Once McCoy discovered his opponent's disability, he wasted no time in taking advantage of it. Near the end of the third round McCoy stepped back a pace and pointed to his adversary's corner, indicating that the bell had rung.
"Oh, thank you so much," said McCoy's opponent. "very civil of you." But the bell hadn't rung at all, and as soon as the other boxer dropped his hands and turned away. McCoy immediately knocked him out.

Poisonous Mushrooms

There are a thousand or more varieties of mushrooms that are good to eat....The most dreaded of the poisonous mushrooms are two members of the Amanita group. One is the death cup, and the other is the fly amanita.
The death cup grows in the woods from June until fall. Its poison acts like the venom of a rattlesnake, as it separates the corpuscles in the blood from the serum. No antidote is known for the poison of the death cup. The only hope for anyone who has eaten it is to clean out his stomach promptly with a stomach pump. It is small wonder that one variety is known as the destroying angel.
The death cup has often been mistaken for the common mushroom. A person should not make this mistake if he observes carefully. The poisonous plant has white gills, white spores, and the fatal poison cup around the stem. The plant that is safe to eat has pink gills, brown spores, and no cup. Many of the mistakes come from picking it in the button stage, for it does not show all these differences until it has grown larger.
