THE GENERATIONS OF JESUS

SERMON STARTER

What are your generations like? Where are your ancestors from? Ancestor.com can tell you for $59.95 for a DNA kit. European, Asiatic, Native American, Mediterranean, Middle East. . . The present generation around us is referred to as the Millennial Generation. That would be those people born between 2000 to the present. There are presently, 83.1 million of them. This generation has no experiential knowledge of. . .

The Great Depression - WW2 - Korean War - Vietnam - Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs - Sputniks - Moon Rockets - Dooms-Day Weapons of War - Wax Phonograph Records - 8-Track tapes - Cassettes -Corded phones - Rotary dial telephones - Phone Booths -Standard Shift Automobiles - Cursive writing -

Life without Smart Phones / Apps - Computers - Spreadsheets

Television without cable or Satellites - Awareness or Application of the Bible or it's contents - the need for Jesus Christ in their lives.

We are the geriatric generation that carries all this knowledge and yet have done poorly about communicating the Gospel to our Millennial Generation. We've labeled and name-called them "Snowflakes." Millennials are the generation of Narcissism and Self-Obsession. A snowflake, according to Urban Dictionary, is “a term used to describe extremist liberals that get offended by every statement and/or belief that doesn’t exactly match their own.”  Snowflakes are yet another generation my geriatric generation has failed miserably to communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

My sermon this morning is about the generations of Jesus and His challenge to reach out and mentor yet another generation for His Kingdom.

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. Matt. 1:17

"We who have been sanctified by Jesus, now have the same Father He has.  That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers."(TLB) Heb. 2:11

III. OUR GENERATION: THE JESUS GENERATION

          A.   Summary:

                 1. Fourteen Generation from Abraham to David

                 2. Fourteen Generations from Solomon to Babylon Exile/Jechonia

                 3. Thirteen Generations from Salathiel to Jesus

            B.  We ( You / I ) are the missing "Fourteenth" Generation!

                        1. When you Accept Jesus into your Heart and Life,

                        2. You become one of His Family.

                        4. You become part of the Fourteenth Generation!

            C. Can it be this 14th Generation Jesus Referred to in Matt. 24:32-34?

32 "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already

become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.

33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near--at the

doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass

away till all these things take place.

Four Things Jesus Tells Us About Reaching the Next Generation

1. Jesus came down to others. He didn’t expect others to come up to his      level.

2. Jesus spoke the language of the culture.

3. Jesus didn’t lecture. He loved.

4. Jesus prepared the way for the church after his departure.

The servant is not greater than his Lord.

Jesus prepared the way for US before His Departure.

Can we do anything LESS for this generation, after our departure?
