The morning after my 2,824 mile pilgrimage I awakened hearing this voice in my head. It was clearly not my own voice and thought. I heard four words, PRIDE, ARROGANCE, SELF-SUFFICIENCY and INDEPENDENCE. They were tied to the writing of the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:21,

21 In the law it is written: "With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me," says the Lord.

Paul is quoting Isaiah 28:11,12,

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,
12 To whom He said, "This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest," And, "This is the refreshing"; Yet they would not hear.

In context Isaiah is referring to the reality that God's Prophets spoke to Israel and Judah in their known Hebrew language. God's people had defiled themselves with idolatry and the worship of false gods. The people refused and ignored the warnings of the Lord through His prophets, therefore He sent first the Assyrians and later the Babylonians to speak to His people.
The rest and refreshing is from submitting to God and repenting. The prophet's promise of rest was by heeding the Lord's warning.  The other tongues and stammering lips of the Chaldeans as they enslaved them was their punishment. The Babylonian language would have sounded to Judah as nonsensical babbling. The people summarily rejected the call to repentance of the prophet. They met his words with scorn, mockery and derision. Therefore God gave them up to their enemies.
Today, God's people are not listening to the admonitions of His Word or the warnings of His prophetic teachers or prophetic events. Paul described to young Timothy what was happening then. It sounds like today's headlines.

2 Timothy 3:1-5
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

God is sending His devouring locusts as punishment for ignoring His Word and His Final Warnings.  It is time for God's people to repent from the Deadly Four, PRIDE, ARROGANCE, SELF-SUFFICIENCY and INDEPENDENCE, and surrender to Him completely. This morning's sermon explores the controversial 1 Corinthians 14 chapter of the Bible.

1 Corinthians 14:1-5

"There are four obstructions that keep mankind from repentance and submitting to God's will in their lives. Pride, arrogance, self-sufficiency and independence keep mankind from hearing the admonitions of God through surrendering to Him. We are unwilling to trust God with our lives. These four keep most people out of the Kingdom of God."            Pastor Phil  <><<

discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD
loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives."
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what
son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without
chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are
                        illegitimate and not sons."

Singing in the Spirit
A Bible School classmate's little boy had an unusual experience involving the speaking in tongues and he and his wife's conversion to Renewal Christianity. Long before I met them, his wife was tucking their five-year old into bed and the boy was singing a sweet Jesus song. She asked him where he heard it. He told her Jesus sang it to him.
His wife thought it interesting, but not unusual. Her bright little son often came up with little tales around the Jesus stories she told him at bedtime. The weekend following this incident she was attending a Women's Aglow meeting. During the worship a woman stood up and began to Sing in the Spirit. This was not uncommon for the Aglow ladies. When in private worship they often Sang in the Spirit.

15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.     1 Corinthians 14:15 (NKJV)

In the midst of her spiritual song the woman sang the mother's child's song, the same exact melody. At that moment my classmate's wife crossed over from nominal Christianity to the heat of the renewal. When she told her husband what happened, they both repented of anything that might offend the Lord Jesus and both surrendered to the Call of Christ.
God used these spiritual gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14 to pull my classmate and his wife into the renewal. Jesus was on the move.
1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (NKJV)
1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

So shall this people, which hath been so oft and so long wearied and harassed by great and manifold calamities, find rest and peace.

1 Corinthians 14:15 (NKJV)
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

1 Corinthians 14:22 (NKJV)
22 Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.

1 Corinthians 14:23 (NKJV)
23 Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?
