        JESUS IN OUR MIDST
        SERMON STARTER
Distractions are everywhere in today's culture. There are so many oppositional voices crying out and demanding our attention. The word, bedlam, is a word I use sometimes when I feel torn in so many areas of life. Disappointment, heartbreak and sorrow dominate national thought and life.
The media verbal and visual images have great distracting power. Like the media report that described a little 4 year old girl that had a black eye, dried blood at the corner of her mouth and deep purple bruises all over her body. An investigator asked her name. What she answered was the most startling of all, he said her name was "Idiot."
She lived with her mother and her live-in-boyfriend.
Police say she was called an ‘idiot’ so often and for so long that it was the word that sprung to her young mind when a social worker asked her name.” The mental picture of that abused child will be impossible to erradicate.
My sermon today attempts to paint a mental picture that will also become indelibly imprinted on our mind and heart. Jesus is present in the time of trouble. The greater the extremity life throws your way, the greater Presence of Jesus will become in the midst of your distractions.
Practice seeing Him, and focusing on Him, you will never be the same.

HE IS HERE!

He is here, Hallelujah, He is here, Amen
He is here, Holy Holy, I will bless His name again
He is here, listen closely
Hear Him calling out your name
He is here, you can touch Him
You will never be the same

I sense an awesome moving of the Holy Spirit
I see His countenance resting on your face
I know that there are angels hovering all around us
For the presence of the Lord is in this place

CHORUS:
He is here, Hallelujah, He is here, Amen
He is here, Holy Holy, I will bless His name again
He is here, listen closely
Hear Him calling out your name
He is here, you can touch Him
You will never be the same

I searched for peace among the shadow, dark and lonely
Gave up on finding that strong and lasting love
I tasted all the things that sin could think to offer me
But today I feast on manna from above

He is here, Hallelujah, He is here, Amen
He is here, Holy Holy, I will bless His name again
He is here, listen closely
Hear Him calling out your name
He is here, you can touch Him
You will never be the same

He is here, you can touch Him
You will never be the same

JESUS IN OUR MIDST
John 20:19-23
19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you."
20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

KID HUMOR
A Sunday-school teacher tested her students to see if they understood how to get to heaven.
“If I sold my house and my car and had a big garage sale, then gave all my money to the church, would that get me to heaven?” she asked.
“No!” the children answered.
“What if I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would that get me to heaven?”
Again the answer was “No!”
By now the teacher started to smile. “Well then,” she said, “what if I were kind to animals and gave candy to all children?”
Again her pupils shouted, “No!” The teacher was bursting with pride for them.
“Then how can I get to heaven?” she asked.
A 5-year-old boy shouted, “You gotta be dead!”
