six Ways to Overcome Anxiety

SERMON STARTER

I enrolled in a Graduate Level Master's program in 1980 with Ashland Theological Seminary. I was 40 years old when I enrolled in this fast-paced, six trimester program. My biggest problem was test anxiety. No matter how long I studied, it wasn't enough. On test days I'd look at the True-False, Multiple Guess questions and my mind went blank. I excelled when the profs handed out little theme booklets and expected us to write what we knew. But the TF, Multiple choice tests had me stumped.

With God's divine help I got through the 22 months of academic hell with a 3.4 GPA. Not bad for a non-traditional student. There are some tricks I learned to get me through the ordeal. This sermon holds some of them.

WE live in an anxiety ridden world promoted by a world-wide media determined to keep its residents in a state of anxiety. No one feels safe in the present world. Our only place of safety is in the Lord. The world is stressed out by dwelling on the uncertainties of the future.

Some of us have mental health issues spinning off the uncertainties of this present age.
