THE POWER OF JESUS’ BLOOD
SERMON STARTER

The Bible is a book of covenants. A covenant is today what we would call a “contract.” Old Testament contracts were settled with blood. God’s dealing with mankind’s sin and disobedience began with Adam and Eve in the Garden when God made His first “Blood-Sealed contract” by killing animals to cover the sin of Adam and Eve’s covenant violation. After this, the Old Testament is filled with animal blood sacrifices: Lambs, Rams, Bulls, Goats, Doves, and Pigeons.
The blood contracts go through all the pages of the Old Covenant and end in the New Testament when the Roman soldier’s lance pierces the side of Jesus, causing the flow of both blood and water. When Jesus cries out on the Cross, “It is Finished,” He was saying that man would never again need the blood of animals to cover his nakedness before God. Jesus made an end to animal blood atonement.
Christ’s Blood shed on the Cross has the power to cleanse us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Church attendance DOES NOT cleanse from Sin.
Praying DOES NOT cleanse from Sin.
Living a good life DOES NOT cleanse from Sin.
Being Baptized in water DOES NOT cleanse from Sin.
Taking Communion DOES NOT cleanse from Sin.
THE BLOOD OF JESUS!
HIS BLOOD ALONE HAS POWER TO CLEANSE FROM ALL SIN!

“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”  1 Peter 1:18, 19

PRAISE GOD!
There is power in the Blood of Christ!
My sermon explores how the Power of Christ’s Blood operates in a Christian Believer’s life.

THE POWER OF jesus’ BLOOD
Matthew 26:26-28

"And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.
28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”  Matthew 26:26-28

"We worship a covenant making God, but we are encumbered by being covenant breaking people. Through His Blood shed on the Cross, Jesus shows us the way to Peace with God.”                                    Pastor Phil  <><<

3. REDEEMED FROM THE CURSE
The story is told of a gentleman visiting a slave market, who was deeply touched by the mental agony of a slave-girl, who had been delicately reared and feared that she should fall into the hands of a rough master. The gentleman inquired her price, paid it to the slave-trader, then placed the bill of sale in her own hands, telling her that she was free, and could now go home. The slave-girl could not realize the change at first, but, running after her redeemer cried,
"He has redeemed me! he has redeemed me!
Will you let me be your servant?"

OVERCOME BY THE BLOOD

Over a century ago in France, Dr. Felix Ruh and Louis Pasteur worked together on what was then called the "germ theory."

Over a century ago in France, Dr. Felix Ruh and Louis Pasteur worked together on what was then called the “germ theory.” Dr. Felix Ruh a Jewish physician, had watched as his granddaughter died of “black diphtheria” and vowed that he would find a cure for this dreaded disease that had take the life of his granddaughter.
The idea of combating germs was still just a theory when Dr. Ruh invited the area’s scientist to his farm to watch as he swabbed twenty horses nostril, tongue, and throat with the germs that he had cultured with “Black Diphtheria.”
One by one the horses began to die until there was only one horse left. The scientist all gave up and left. But Dr Ruh remained with his assistant who watched the horse through out the night. When the fever of the horse began to break he woke Dr. Ruh. The doctor watched as the horse fought off the germs and by the next day was standing and eating as if nothing had ever been wrong.
At this Dr. Ruh killed the horse and extracted all of the blood from this animal that had overcome this disease, and rushed to the municipal hospital. Forcing their way passed the superintendent and the guards and went into the ward where three hundred babies lay, segregated to die from the “Black Diphtheria.” With the blood of the horse, they forcibly inoculated everyone of the babies. All but three lived and recovered completely.
They were saved by the blood of an overcomer.

JESUS BLOOD GIVE LIFE
WHEN DO I DIE?
In his book Written in Blood, Robert Coleman tells the story of a little boy whose sister needed a blood transfusion. The doctor explained that she had the same disease the boy had recovered from two years earlier. Her only chance for recovery was a transfusion from someone who had previously conquered the disease. Since the two children had the same rare blood type, the boy was the ideal donor.
“Would you give your blood to Mary?” the doctor asked.
Johnny hesitated. His lower lip started to tremble. Then he smiled and said, “Sure, for my sister.”
Soon the two children were wheeled into the hospital room—Mary, pale and thin; Johnny, robust and healthy. Neither spoke, but when their eyes met, Johnny grinned.
As the nurse inserted the needle into his arm, Johnny’s smile faded. He watched the blood flow through the tube.
With the ordeal almost over, his voice, slightly shaky, broke the silence. “Doctor, when do I die?’
Only then did the doctor realize why Johnny had hesitated, why his lip had trembled when he’d agreed to donate his blood. He’s thought giving his blood to his sister meant giving up his life. In that brief moment, he’d made his great decision.
Johnny, fortunately, didn’t have to die to save his sister. Each of us, however, has a condition more serious than Mary’s, and it required Jesus to give not just His blood but His life.

THE MARRED HANDS SETTLED THE ISSUE
An orphaned boy was living with his grandmother when their house caught fire. The grandmother, trying to get upstairs to rescue the boy, perished in the flames. The boy’s cries for help were finally answered by a man who climbed an iron drainpipe and came back down with the boy hanging tightly to his neck.
Several weeks later, a public hearing was held to determine who would receive custody of the child. A farmer, a teacher, and the town’s wealthiest citizen all gave the reasons they felt they should be chosen to give the boy a home. But as they talked, the lad’s eyes remained focused on the floor. Then a stranger walked to the front and slowly took his hands from his pockets, revealing severe scars on them. As the crowd gasped, the boy cried out in recognition. This was the man who had saved his life. His hands had been burned when he climbed the hot pipe. With a leap the boy threw his arms around the man’s neck and held on for dear life. The other men silently walked away, leaving the boy and his rescuer alone. Those marred hands had settled the issue.
