Mary’s Miracle
Sermon Starter
One of our greatest difficulties as we face Holy Scripture is to believe God’s Word. God always keeps His Word to us, but in our humanity, we either fail to believe or we forget. God came to Mary in a dark and mundane time in her life. He recruited her for perhaps the greatest mission undertaken by a woman before or since. She was to conceive and bear the long awaited Messiah, the desire of the nations.
A friend of mine recounted an incredible story of an evangelist who was conducting a crusade in India. Several thousand people assembled to hear him speak and hear a Word from God. In the midst of his preaching, he received a Word of Knowledge from God. He called out to the crowd,
“Sum-na! God wants you to know that although you are just a girl from a poor family, He has His eye on you. He loves you and cares about you. Your life is not meaningless to Him. He has work and a mission for you. Be ready when He calls!”
A little 14 year old girl Indian was in the crowd and heard her name called out by the white evangelist. Her face grew white and she became numb with panic to think that God knew her name and who she was. She was so timid, she could not respond immediately to the evangelist’s call or Word of Knowledge. Later, she showed herself to the evangelist and he prayed for her.
Mary’s miracle was like that, but with the appearance of an angelic being that caused the shepherds to be “sore afraid,” she. Too, must have felt great fear. Gabriel is God’s announcing angel. Can you picture how Gabriel looks? When he shows up, something really important is about to happen. This was especially true in Mary’s case. It was Mary’s Miracle.

Mary’S Miracle
Luke 1:26-27
“God comes into the dark, impossible situations of our lives and conceives goodness and righteousness in us.  God keeps all His Promises to us.”                                                                                                               Pastor Phil
“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.” Luke 1:26-27

Six Circumstances around Mary’s Miracle:
I.   MARY HAD AN APPOINTED TIME - Verse 26
“In the sixth month. . .”
A. There was an Appointed Time for God’s FIRST Coming
          1. Today is God’s Day, not tomorrow - 2 Cor. 6:2b
”Now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation.”
           2. You can trust God’s Timing - Isaiah 49:8 –
“In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of  salvation I will help you; I will keep you . . .”
B. There is an Appointed Time for God’s SECOND Coming
1. Won’t be predicted by mankind – Mark 13:32
"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven,
nor the Son, but only the Father.”
                    a. Harold Campy – Predicts Christ’s Return May 21, 2011
                    b. Predicted wrongly in 1994 and again in 1999
            2. Appointed Time for your Personal Salvation – Phil. 2:12b
. . . work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”
            3. Appointed Time for God’s Return for His Bride – 1 Thes. 4:16-18
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in
Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught
up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And
thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another
                    with these words.”
II.   MARY HAD AN APPOINTED PLACE - Verse 26b
“God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. . .”
          A. God knew of the purity of Mary’s heart – Matthew 5:8
“Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.”
          B. He sought her out
          C. You are not unknown to God
          D. God Knows Your Name and Address - John 10:29-31
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. . .”
          E. You are worth more than Sparrows - Matt. 10:29-31
"Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls                        to the ground apart from your Father's will. . . .Do not fear therefore; you        are of more value than many sparrows.”

III.   MARY WAS HIGHLY FAVORED BY GOD - Verse 28
“Greetings, you who are highly favored!  The Lord is with you.”
      A. God has Accepted Us because of Jesus
     1.  “Highly Favored,” – Treated with Special Honor
          2. You and I are Accepted before God - Eph. 1:6
“He has made us accepted in the Beloved.”
      B. God has Blest Us!  BLESSED - “To Be Made Happy. . .”

IV.   MARY WAS TROUBLED BY GOD’S MESSAGE - Verse 29
      A. Gabriel’s Appearance Recorded in Daniel - Daniel 10:5,6
“I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! His body was like beryl, his
face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.”
1. Daniel had been fasting three weeks expecting God’s intervention
2. Question: Would you find this sudden appearance troubling?
            3. Mary was doing mundane, ordinary things when God showed up
      B. Reasoning the Angel’s Message Impossible - Finite vs Infinite
           Six IMPOSSIBLES for Mary:
             1. For Mary to rejoice
              2. For Mary to believe she was highly favored
              3. For Mary to believe the Lord was with her
              4. For Mary to believe she was favored above world’s women
              5. For Mary to believe a virgin to conceive and bear a child
              6. For Mary to believe the child would be the “chosen one”
          C. For with God nothing shall be impossible – Luke 1:37
              1. “No word from God shall be void of power”
               2. “God’s promises never fail”

V.   MARY WAS PROMISED BY GOD - Verse 31
“You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the
         name Jesus.”
A. Mary is given SEVEN Promises -  See the six impossibilities + One
"And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom                        there will be no end."
       B. Still Mary Ponders, “How shall these things be?”

VI. MARY WAS EXHORTED BY GOD - Verse 37
“For nothing is impossible with God.”
       A. “NOTHING”–GRK. =RAY-MA =“A specific Word to a specific person”
       B. All Good Gifts Come from the Father – Matthew 7:11; James 1:17
"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how
much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those
             who ask Him!”
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from
the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

 Mary’s Miracle TEXT:
Luke 1:26-37
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
27  to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
28  And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!"
29  But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was.
30  Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31  "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.
32  "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
33  "And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."
34  Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?"
35  And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
36  "Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.
37  "For with God nothing will be impossible."

“No word from God shall be void of power”
“God’s promises never fail”

Matt. 10:28,29
29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the           will of your Father.
30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
