SHEEPFOLD’S ON-GOING VISION

SERMON STARTER

It has been an exhausting week for Lois and myself. It takes days of planning preparation to do one of these Sheepfold outreaches. We are reaching the limit of what we can do because of age and strength. When we started the Sheepfold, there were a number of energetic younger people that pitched in to help. They are no longer here and presently Lois and I are not getting younger.

There will be a shift in our outreach projects in the future but we will continue to bind up the broken-hearted. The grieving and distressed are all around us. There will be fewer and fewer of our past outreaches that involve such strenuous amounts of effort.

This morning’s sermon involves a review of our vision and calling. Technically, this sermon as is most of my teaching, comes from my own struggle to keep on the path assigned to me by the Heavenly Father. As with anything challenging us with a need for change, there is always a time of deep reflection first. Later, there is a time of introspection and listening to both your own heart and God. After that, a series of action plans can follow.

My sermon involves the beginning of the struggle to stay on track and the necessary evaluation that brings constructive and creative change. I covet your prayers as I go through this needed process.

“By the light of burning martyrs, Christ, Thy bleeding feet we track, Toiling up new Calv’ries ever with the cross that turns not back; New occasions teach new duties, time makes ancient good uncouth, They must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth.”

SHEEPFOLD’S ON-GOING VISION

LUKE 14:16-24 - MATTHEW 25:35-40 – ISAIAH 61:1-10

I. SHEEPFOLD’S CALLING TO THE POOR – Luke 14:16-24

        A. Jesus taught us to reach out to the poor – vs. 23,24

“'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in,                         that my house may be filled. 'For I say to you that none of those men

who were invited shall taste my supper.'"

        B. Written into our Bi-Laws and Statement of Purpose

                        1. Integration of Fours texts:

                            Isaiah 61:1-10; Matt. 25:40; Ps. 51:17; James 1:10; 2:1-7

“Sheepfold Ministries has been conceived and birthed to teach                                   and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God in Jesus Christ;                                   and it is to demonstrate Kingdom Power by: Cleansing Lepers,                                  Healing the Sick and Diseased, Raising the Dead, Recovering                                 Sight to  the Blind,  Casting Out Demons,  Healing the Broken-

Hearted, and Setting at Liberty the Bruised.  In short, we are to

Proclaim the Kingdom of God with demonstrational power to the

end result that we teach, baptize and make disciples  for  the

Lord Jesus Christ, making ready for His Soon Coming."

                2. We did this at the beginning through Small Groups

                                    a. Codependency Groups

                                    b. Counseling Outreach

            C. Basic Calling hasn’t changed, but emphasis has

                        1. Kingdom Principle: Provision follows Anointing

                                    a. Jesus and his disciples traveled and taught

                                    b. Entourage followed with provision

                        2. Provision has shifted

                                    a. Logical deduction is that the anointing has as well

                                    b. Reaching out to the broken hearted

II. SHEEPFOLD’S CALLING TO THE BROKEN-HEARTED

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me

To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who

    are bound;”

            A. Sheepfold is a place for healing the Broken-Hearted – Ps. 147:3

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

            B. God’s anointing and provision have been here

                        1. Book: “They Shall Be Comforted”

                        2. Sent it to a dying friend in So. Texas

                                    a. Wife read to him the stories of hope

                                    b. Called me and I eulogized, prayed and blessed him

                        3. Will have to fill out an IRS 990 Form this year

            C. Ran support grief recovery groups for 18 years

                        1. Opening new group in West Middlesex

                        2. Making the material electronically accessible

            D. Bro. Ron Wasilchak’s ministry as webmaster

                        1. Making information available to the public

                        2. Part of Healing is knowing and understanding

            E. Significant part of Equipping the Saints is Healing

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some                                evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the

saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son

of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness

                   of Christ;”

                        1. Drop out rate high because leaders try to equip w/o healing

                        2. Unhealed, wounded heart builds up angry infection

                        3. Unleashes itself on unsuspecting leaders

                        4. Unresolved grief is cumulative, and continues to infect

            F. God is near the broken, contrite heart – Psalm 51:17

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart;                    These, O God, You will not despise.”

SHEEPFOLD’S ON-GOING VISION, Texts:

LUKE 14:16-24

Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many,

17  "and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.'

18  "But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.'

19  "And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.'

20  "Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'

21  "So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.'

22  "And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.'

23  "Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24  'For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.'"

MATTHEW 25:34-40

34  "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35  'for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;

36  'I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'

37  "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?

38  'When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?

39  'Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'

40  "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'

ISAIAH 61:1-10

61:1  "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,

3  To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."

4  And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations.

5  Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

6  But you shall be named the priests of the LORD, They shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And in their glory you shall boast.

7  Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs.

8  "For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery for burnt offering; I will direct their work in truth, And will make with them an everlasting covenant.

9  Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles, And their offspring among the people. All who see them shall acknowledge them, That they are the posterity whom the LORD has blessed."

10  I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
