NO  CONDEMNATION

SERMON STARTER

Guilt is basically anger turned in onto yourself. It is a part of our humanity. The animal kingdom does not feel nor do they experience guilt. Only humans feel that sharp edge of regret. There are two kinds of guilt:

1. Healthy guilt that says, “I’m sorry, I was wrong. I made a mistake. I’ll do better next time.”

2. Toxic shame-based guilt that says, “I AM a mistake. I’m worthless and should never have been born.”

It is this latter type of guilt that Jesus bore on the Cross, becoming shame for us to cover our guilt and shame.

The people of our culture have become hostile, guilty and shame-based. They are angry with God, others and especially themselves. Satan, the flesh and the world all exploit mankind’s guilt and try to use it for their own advantage. Jesus has already won the battle over all this anger for us. We need to embrace and accept what He’s done for us.

When Satan, the accuser, comes knocking on the door of your heart attempting to make you feel guilty, there are four things you can do. Tell him:

1. The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses us from every sin. (1 John 1:7)

2. When God forgives our sins, he remembers them no more. (Hebrews 10:17)

3. He casts our sins in the deepest sea. (Micah 7:19)

4. He removes our sin from us as far as the east is from the west. (Psalm 103:12)

5. When we cast ourselves on the mercy of Jesus Christ, our sins are taken away forever.

REMEMBER:

When Satan tries to accuse you of your past, remind him of his future!

NO  CONDEMNATION, Texts:

COLOSSIANS 2:6-15

As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,

7  rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

8  Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

9  For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;

10  and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

11  In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,

12  buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

13  And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

14  having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

15  Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
